One year ago today I never thought I’d be celebrating Mother’s Day with a child of my own. Three months ago today I never knew how I was going to raise her on my own.
But on this very day, there are a few things I now know about my little Avery Blue.

- She LOVES being sung to. Her favorite lullaby is “Sweet Child of Mine” – when she hears me start to sing it she gets quiet and her eyes become heavy.
- When she’s sad or sleepy she likes to be swaddled.
- If you look at her and talk she enthusiastically responds with coos.
- She kicks her legs constantly.
- She LOVES the feel and sound of water.
- She is hot most of the time and sweats a ton.
- Her little feet stink.
- She would rather sleep in a sweaty, uncomfortable position on top of me than sleep on a cozy bed alone.
- She has the absolute softest skin I’ve ever touched.
- I feel so lucky that I get to create the experiences, traditions, and memories that will shape her childhood.

Love her and you Rox! Welcome to the mother’s club and Happy Mothers Day!!
I love being able to see pictures of you and Avery, and to read bits of your journey with her. There’s nothing like it, is there? On lots of levels! The difficult and the fabulous are both part of the amazing journey of being a parent, for sure. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, still, even though my kids are now middle-aged and parents themselves. And then the frosting on the cake is grandkids ๐ As much as you can, stay present and enjoy every minute with her, bask in the joy of the blessing of the mother/child love.
